DIY Clothing Tips for Quick Spot/Stain Removal

If you are out with friends and someone spills Cabernet wine on your new blouse, there is no need to panic. Kean’s Fine Dry-Cleaning stores can make any food or wine spots disappear. If it’s after business hours and you want to treat the spot before it sits too long, try these DYI clothing tricks. Bring in to Kean’s as soon as you can after your at-home treatment, and we will make it look new again.

General Spots

Sponge the spot with white vinegar and rinse with cold water. If the spot is really bad, soak the garment overnight in a solution of three parts vinegar and one-part cold water. This works best on cotton fabrics. Be very careful with floral prints and deep colors as it can make the colors fade.

Red Wine Spots

Sprinkle a bit of salt on the wine spot, and let it sit for about five minutes. Rinse with cold water. Repeat as needed then wash.

Coffee Spots

Sprinkle the coffee spot with salt and pour the club soda seltzer over the area. Leave it soak overnight before rinsing.

Blood Spots

Rinse with cold water immediately. If blood dries bring it to Kean’s for professional spot removal.

Caution:

These DIY clothing tips do not work on all colors or fabrics. The longer the spot remains the more difficult it is to remove. We highly recommend you bring your garments to us as soon as possible for complete spot removal.
